Grinch Wreath

Just in time for Christmas! I am posting my Grinch wreath pattern for you to enjoy. If you find any errors or have any questions, please let me know 🙂

Materials needed:

• Lime green yarn (I used RHSS worsted weight)
• Sage green yarn (I used RHSS worsted weight)
• Red yarn (I used RHSS worsted weight)
• G/4.25mm crochet hook
• Polyester stuffing
• 12″ or 14″ foam floral ring
• Yellow and black felt
• Black embroidery floss
• Sewing needle
• Scissors
• Hot glue and glue gun (or needle and thread for sewing the eyes on)
• Embellishments (eg: bells, ribbon, bows, etc) – The options are ENDLESS!!

Stitches used:

• Adj Ring – Adjustable Ring (If you are not comfortable with the Adjustable Ring, you can chain 2 and make the amount of stitches in the second chain from hook)
• Ch – chain
• Sc – Single crochet
• Hdc – Half double crochet
• Slst – Slip stitch
• Sc2tog – Single crochet 2 together (if you’re unfamiliar with this technique, there are LOTS of tutorials online)

NOTES for Foam Ring Cover

**Make sure you have your foam ring close, because you will want to make sure you are not making your strip too tight OR too loose. Also, to avoid weaving in a whole bunch of ends, I carried my color changes up the side. They will be hidden when you sew the sides together anyway 😉

Foam Ring Cover

Starting with red:

Row 1: Ch 21, hdc in second st from hook and in each st across, ch 1, turn (20)

Row 2: Hdc in each st across, change to green on the last st, ch 1, turn (20)

Once you have the amount of rows needed, finish off and weave in any ends. Sew the 2 long sides together around the ring and weave in end.

**Repeat rows 1 and 2, changing colors after every second row until you have enough rows to go around your whole ring. MAKE SURE you end off with the opposite color you started with! Don’t make too many rows, otherwise your work will bunch up when you sew it on. I require 84 rows total for a 12 inch ring and 96 rows total for a 14 inch ring. Your row total may vary depending on your tension.

Using Lime Green:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in an adj ring (or ch 2, and place 6sc in second st from hook). Pull ring closed (6)

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around (12)

Rnd 3: *Sc in the next 1 st, 2 sc in the next* repeat from *to* around (18)

Rnd 4: *Sc in the next 2 sts, 2 sc in the next* repeat from *to* around (24)

Rnd 5: *Sc in the next 3 sts, 2 sc in the next* repeat from *to* around (30)

Rnd 6 – 12: Sc in each st around (30)

Rnd 13: Sc in 5 sts, 2 sc in the next 6sts, sc in 8 sts, 2 sc in the next 6sts, sc in 5 sts (42)

Rnd 14: Sc in 5 sts, *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st*(repeat 6 times), sc in 8 sts, *2 sc in next st, sc in next st*(repeat 6 times), sc in 5 sts (54)

Rnd 15 – 19: Sc in each st around (54)

Rnd 20: Sc in 5 sts, *sc in next st, sc2tog*(repeat 6 times), sc in 8 sts, *sc2tog, sc in next st*(repeat 6 times), sc in 5 sts (42)

Rnd 21: Sc in 5 sts, sc2tog (6 times), sc in 8 sts, sc2tog (6 times), sc in 5 sts (30)

Rnd 22: Sc in each st around (30)

Rnd 23: *Sc in the next 3 sts, sc2tog* repeat from *to* around (24)

Rnd 24: *Sc in the next 2 sts, sc2tog* repeat from *to* around (18)

Start stuffing the head.

Rnd 25: *Sc in the next st, sc2tog* repeat from *to* around (12)

Finish stuffing the head.

Rnd 26: Sc2tog around (6) Finish off with a slst to beginning st of this rnd, leaving a tail to weave the hole closed.

Finishing details – Cut 2 tear drop shapes from yellow felt and cut 2 more tear drop shapes (slightly larger on one side) from black felt. Place the back felt behind the yellow felt and glue or sew the 2 pieces together, making sure the black is showing above the yellow to form like an eyelid. Glue or sew the finished piece to the face. Using black embroidery floss and a needle, embroider a mouth and nose onto the face. Sew the finished head to the wreath. Take 4 strands (about 3 inches long) and attach to the top of the head. Once they are attached, pull the strands apart making the “hair” frayed.

Neck Piece

Using Sage Green:

Chain enough that it will go around the neck area. Sc in second st from hook and in each st across. Finish off and weave in ends. Pull pieces of yarn through each sc stitch (no need to put them in the back stitches) and pull the strands apart making it look frayed like fur. Glue neck piece on around the neck (or sew).

Add embellishments to your wreath and add a piece of ribbon to the back of the top of the wreath to hang.
